 2009 marks the 40th anniversary of the first manned lunar landing. On that landing, Buzz Aldrin worn the Omega Speed master Professional Moon Watch. In order to Pay tribute to this milestone event in not only aviation history but also Omega watch-making history, Omega has released the Speed master Professional Moon Watch Apollo 11 40th Anniversary Limited Edition watch.

 
Obviously, the watch keeps the characteristics of the original one while adopting a few major changes.. The case is 42 mm at diameter. It possesses hesalite face which is made of an acrylic Compound. The application of Hesalite instead of sapphire is because of its excellent shatter-proof performance which is an important quality in a space mission. But hesalite gets scratched easily, which needs special attention when wearing. An OMEGA logo has been marked inside the crystal.
 
The most attractive part on the black dial is the medallion serving as small seconds at 9 oclock position. The medallion was designed by Michael Collins, who was Command Module Pilot in the Apollo 11 capsule, as a symbol of peace. It depicts an eagle approaching the moon surface with an olive branch in its claws while the earth is visibllely far above the horizon. The dial also shows ” 02:56 GMT”- the exact time that Nail Armstrong made his “one small step” onto the moon.
